Child tax credit payments are a tax benefit program for American taxpayers depending on their qualifying child. It primarily reduces the tax liability of a qualified taxpayer on a dollar-by-dollar basis. The said program was created and implemented to help and assist low-income to middle families with their taxes.

The Child Tax Credit was introduced way back in 1997 as part of the Taxpayer Relief Act. The program is aiming to decrease the liability of individuals with children. At present, it is still the main objective of the program and it’s continuously improving. The improvements in the Child Tax Credit became helpful to assist more individuals with qualifying children throughout the United States.

Families May be Eligible for the Program

For the 2023 Child Tax Credit, the American Rescue Plan Act. amends several changes within the said program. It expanded and enhanced the benefits of the said program. Also, it introduced a new method of payment that can be helpful for every individual that suffers financial hardships as a result of the pandemic.

The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) handles and manages the Child Tax Credit throughout the United States. According to the IRS, there are 36 million American families that may be eligible for the program. The said government agency pushes its best to ensure that Child Tax Credit will benefit all eligible families and support them, especially amidst the pandemic.

What are Child Tax Credit Payments?

The 2023 Child Tax Credit is the recent part of the program. It was greatly expanded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The 2023 Child Tax Credit differs differently from the 2020 Child Tax Credit.

Within the 2020 Child Tax Credit, the maximum amount of credit from the program is $2,000 per child age 16. Now, eligible individuals can receive up to $3,600 of tax credit per qualifying child under the age of 6 and $3,000 per child aged from 6-17.

The said law covers the said program as it focuses on the economic recovery and resources of individuals. The increase in the credit amount is a huge help for qualified individuals to reduce their respective tax liabilities.

Receive Benefits on a Monthly Basis

In terms of refund, the 2020 Child Tax Credit just allows beneficiaries to refund a maximum of $1,400 per qualifying child. On the other side, the 2023 Child Tax Credit is fully refundable. It means that individuals can refund their excess credit amount and use it freely. This is more helpful for the program beneficiaries, especially for those who do not need to file taxes.

Moreover, the 2023 Child Tax Credit also introduced a new method of payment. Advance Child Tax Credit is now available and offered by the Internal Revenue Office. This way, beneficiaries can receive benefits on a monthly basis. The IRS started the disbursement of benefits last July 2021. With the advanced method, benefits will be more helpful for eligible individuals.

Child Tax Credit Amendment

According to the IRS, the new legislation amending the 2023 Child Tax Credit will reduce up to 45% of children living in poverty in the United States. It is a better chance as it introduced new and broad regulations for the said program. However, this year’s changes are just applicable to the year 2023. If there will be no other legislation that will pass Congress, the Child Tax Credit will be back from the past regulations.

What are the 2023 Advance Child Tax Credit Payments?

2023 Advance Child Tax Credit Payments is the newly introduced method by the Internal Revenue Service. In this way, individuals can receive their tax credit refund from the Child Tax Credit every month. Beneficiaries with a qualifying child under the age of 6 receive a maximum of $300 per month while $250 per month for every qualifying child aged from 6-17.
